WHY IS ORGANISATIONAL SKILL AN IMPORTANT SKILL?
Organisation is a vital skill that helps us to navigate our daily lives. It can be defined as the ability to plan and manage time, resources and assigned tasks effectively. This skill can be particularly useful if you have a full-time job, a family to raise or studies to pursue. Being organised and knowing how to manage your time effectively allows you to stay focused and get more done, or, for the same activity, to reduce stress.
How do you create an organisation system?
Creating an organisational system doesn’t have to be complicated. All you need to do is clearly define your goals, prioritise them and create specific steps to achieve those goals. You should also establish rules for yourself and consider some form of reward if you meet or exceed your goals.
But “being organised” is more than that: it also means being able to deal with the unexpected, manage your own stress and, perhaps above all, be able to turn down requests.
Eliminating disruptive factors
To get organised and find the system that works best for you, it’s a good idea to start by identifying all the disruptive elements that are hindering your effectiveness. Depending on your situation, this could be your smartphone buzzing, emails, time wasted looking for things, etc. In short, anything that thwarts your concentration. Then, for each disruptive element identified, you need to put in place a suitable elimination strategy.
Planning and managing time
Planning and managing time are essential to achieving optimum organisation. Good time management involves forecasting, anticipating, preparing, classifying and prioritising the tasks to be carried out. By taking the time to get organised, you’ll be able to anticipate difficulties and set short- and long-term goals. You’ll also be able to monitor your progress and adapt your plan or strategy according to the results.

- Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck
World-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck, in decades of research on achievement and success, has discovered a truly groundbreaking idea–the power of our mindset. Dweck explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success–but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset. She makes clear why praising intelligence and ability doesn’t foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment, but may actually jeopardise success.
