T9 – Conflict Resolution skills

WHY IS CONFLICT RESOLUTION AN IMPORTANT SKILL?

Conflict resolution is about bringing people together to find a solution to a problem rather than pulling them apart. The goal of a workplace is to create an inclusive environment of people who know how to manage and limit conflict. You cannot expect there to be no conflict in your workplace; rather, you need to ensure that everyone has the skills to deal with conflict in a professional manner.

Conflict resolution also means that problems will be resolved much more quickly, which can lead to greater efficiency in the workplace. Rather than dwelling on a problem for hours or even days, you can resolve it quickly and effectively so that everyone can get back to work.

Conflict resolution promotes teamwork (You can find details of this skill in a dedicated module entitled “Teamwork for artists”) and good working relationships because it brings people together to solve a problem. When you are able to put aside your differences and come together to reach a conclusion that works for everyone, you show great strength. It shows that you care more about solving the problem than about being right in the situation. Conflict resolution is essential to building strong working relationships based on mutual respect and trust.

Overall, conflict resolution creates a positive and welcoming company culture so that everyone feels respected. No one wants to go to work every day worrying about what kind of argument they are going to have that day and how it might get out of hand. Conflict resolution creates a positive working environment based on communication and trust, allowing you to resolve conflicts quickly and get on with your day.

This module focuses on resolving private conflicts in your workplace, meaning with colleagues, partners or clients. You will learn:

  • What a conflict is and the different stages of conflict.
  • How to communicate your emotions and feelings in an effective manner.
  • How to anticipate conflicts.
  • How to cooperate to find a solution to a conflict.
  • To be open to dialogue and compromise.
